From John’s Family Record Book and personal journal entries, the following chronology of ordinances in John Henry Humphrey Barker’s life is provided below (He was born Monday, April 5, 1841).

Confirmation – July 17, 1859 (Sunday) – Performed by Elder Joseph W. Dawson (Branch President), Somers Town Branch, London, Middlesex, England; with Triddenham (?), (James?) Moss, Gordon (?), and Edward Tullidge assisting

Ordination: Deacon – November 6, 1859 (Sunday) – Performed by Elder E.L.T. Harrison, Somers Town Branch, London, Middlesex, England; with John Reid, Joseph Dawson assisting

Ordination: Teacher – August 19, 1860 (Sunday) – Performed by Elder Joseph W. Dawson (Branch President), Somers Town Branch, London, Middlesex, England. The Teacher’s Certificate below does not represent the date of ordination; rather, this certificate was for the benefit of office recognition in John’s relocation from England and emigration to Utah.  The certificate is dated May 1, 1862, whereas, John left England on May 5, 1862, sailing on the ship Manchester. The date of ordination is provided in John’s journal.

Marriage (Susan Ann Dermott, b. May 20, 1843) – June 28, 1862 (Saturday) – Performed by, and in the tent of, J.D.T. McAllister, Florence, Nebraska (Witnesses: Mark Barnes and Frank B[…]). This marriage presumably represents a civil ceremony, since John and Susan had not yet been endowed, and JDT McAllister was not given authority to officiate in temple ordinances until April 13, 1877.1
